Napa Valley Farm Fund

Napa Valley Farm Fund is the Non-profit side of the Co-op. The fund is going to utilize resources from the farm to aid the residents of Napa County. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of the people of the county. We will start programs that will have a trusted true lasting effect in the community. Government can’t do that.

As the Napa Valley Farm Fund (NVFF) broadens its nonprofit offerings, it will introduce job ride programs, substance abuse support, various job services including field work, herder initiatives that allow individuals to live with and tend to animals, trade service education, and vocational training. NVFF’s affiliate, NVF Co-op, will develop and sustain our own machinery and modular processing units. Plans also include transitional housing for families, wealth and financial management education, purchasing guidance, and financial literacy programs for young adults transitioning to independence. Additionally, services designed to educate young people on home-buying processes are in development. These initiatives, focused on agricultural employment, are designed to proactively prevent homelessness, anchored by cost-effective and work for food programs.

Our Introduction

Porch Garden Program

Many underprivileged families reside in homes with insufficient land for gardening. Our program aims to provide all necessary resources to establish a minimum of three to five produce planters, ranging from 5-gallon to 25-gallon fabric planters, with a seasonal crops. We supply the fabric planter, soil, fertilizer, and plants, delivering everything to an apartment or house, setting it up completely, and instructing residents on growing the specific crops and the maintenance. In subsequent seasons, we would only need to provide the seeds for replanting, along with plants and fertilizers. Our goal is to assist 1,000 families in the first year. To sustain this program, we plan to sell plant starter, trees and flower to all nurseries in Napa County and through direct sales to local residents. Our ambition is to equip 10,000 underprivileged or low-income families with a sustainable source of healthy food by enabling them to cultivate it themselves, which is a more effective mental health aid than many other programs.

  1. Simple Fresh Produce Needs – This will not meet all the produce needs of a family, but providing supplemental organic produce is a step up from current efforts. We hope that over time, residents will appreciate these options and expand their porch gardens with our help.
  2. Mental Health – Caring for plants can have an immediate positive effect on mental health.
  3. Community Involvement – The initiative aims to engage people, ideally integrating residents as working members of the farm, thereby meeting their food needs in a cost-effective manner.

Benefits: Each container can yield 15-45 pounds of produce annually over three seasons. A resident might produce between 130 and 225 pounds of produce each year. With 10,000 families using 3-5 containers, this could result in 2.2 million pounds of produce for low-income residents annually. It’s vital for families to engage in gardening, and we are dedicated to teaching them. This initiative significantly benefits mental health, which cannot be overstated. Our goal is to collaborate with apartment complexes, churches, schools and retirement facilities to initiate this project and also establish community gardens. Many apartments lack sunlight exposure, and some house renters are unable to plant gardens. We aim to assist in setting up these community gardens.
