We buy together to save. Please join to help improve the services we can offer. Our costs are generally much lower than your local Supermart. When you buy it help other in the community.

Question 1: How do I become a member?

Answer: Fill out the contact sheet above and you are a member. Or go to (130) NVF Food Co-op

Question 2: How do I place an order?

Answer: Go to the site and sign up we will send you the site info

Question 3: Do we except EBT?

Answer: We have been working on EBT/Snap for 8 Months. Please give us time. The USDA doesn’t understand our business model and would prefer people stick with the standard Safeway style shopping experience.

Question 4: How do we pay?

Answer: We bill you after we have picked and weighed each item sold by weight. You will get a bill from us in your email though QuickBooks. These bills once paid show as paid. You will never get a duplicate bill if you paid a bill, it will not allow you to may again.

Question 5: Is there a membership fee?

Answer: No, In lieu of any membership fee we ask that you try to order on a weekly basis. No matter how small an order. Even if it’s one banana! Most people can’t afford food, making a membership fee impossible.

Some may ask why do we need weekly orders? At this point in our development, we need to turn over product for freshness and we need our community to have the freshest quality products. If this ordering becomes habitual, we will succeed… it’s too easy to just pick up food from the local market, we need to change that habit for the entire community’s success. If we don’t , we will not succeed; we also need the volume with our low profit margins to meet our growing expenses.

Question 6: Do we deliver?

Answer: We are currently only delivering to Senior Housing Areas. We set up a one day a week drop day for these areas.

Question 7. Where do we get our food products from?

Answer: The same places all restaurants, small and large supermarkets do. We have local distributors that buy food products nationally. We don’t buy from those fly by companies that sell door to door.

Beef: We actually buy from Costco Business Direct Costco Business Center . So most of our beef has been coming from Costco. We save money by buying primals and our Head Butcher Jesus cuts them down into steaks. In the future as our community grows, we will make ground beef with all the trimmings to save our community money. We have an account with Harris Ranch direct, but we do not have the volume to use it.

Chicken and Pork: Calvada Foods Calvada Food Sales | Distributor of Best Quality Meats

Produce: We buy from two sources Veritable Vegetable Organic Produce Wholesale Distributor – Veritable Vegetable for Organic and Shasta Produce Shasta Produce | The Largest Wholesale Distributor of Fruits and Vegetables in the San Francisco Bay Area.  for Conventional

Cheese: Marin Cheese Company Marin Cheese – Wholesale Commercial Food Distributor , a local distributor that supplies Whole Foods

Dairy – Troia Foods Home – Troia Foods

Question 8: Is our produce sourced locally?

Answer: Depending on the season. Again, we buy from the same distributors that a farmer market seller or supermarket would. We live in California, most produce is grown here. As we grow in volume, we gain the buying power to source foods even more local, buying directly from farms. That happens with growth.

Question 9: Do we stock Organic Chicken, Grass Fed Beef or other unique meats?

Answer: Not Yet, we have been trying to source a regular supply of each. Currently we enter Grass Fed and Organic Chicken on our order form each week and once and a while we receive it. Basically, we don’t have the buying power to be first in line for specialty items through our distribution and farm network.

Question 10: What is a General Member?

Answer: A general member buys food products with a mark-up. They have no obligation other than to try to buy weekly.

Question 11: What is a Volunteer Member and what are the duties of a volunteer member?

Answer: A Volunteer Member is a member that volunteers 6hrs a month to receive their products at cost. Some of the duties may include packaging foods, walking neighborhood distributing promotional materials, helping with business tasks, picking, bagging, greeting and helping distribute orders. All really simple but important tasks. We need leaders that are self-motivated.

Question 12: Will our prices get better as our community grows?

Answer: Yes, we are currently in a spot where we buy low volume. As our volume increase two things will happen. 1. Our leverage will grow with distributors to keep our business, we can then negotiate better deals, as we grow more we then can go around distributors to buy direct from the farms or aggregators. 2. Our overhead dictates a higher than anticipate mark-up right now. While we are still beating supermarket prices, we can and will do better.

Question 13: Can we purchase anything in a supermarket?

Answer: Technically yes. But there are obstacles in place to limit competition in the food industry. It’s called price fixing. All the major corporations control the price of foods. We try to buy any product controlled by major corporation and we get prices that are above the price in a supermarket. Simply put, places like Browns Valley Market pays a much higher cost than all the other Major Chains. They have to charge more, as they’re cost is higher.

Our Introduction

How the Food Co-op Works

We buy food and household goods together to save money. We are just a community that wants more for our money, a community that wants to buy locally grown products “but there are none”, a community that wants to grow and raise our own food. We are a community that wants to know every dollar we spend in town stays in town!  Typically, store take the profit out of town, any profits never do any good for our community. NVF pledges to spend our profits on farm projects in Napa County.

We are done with price fixing and corporate greed; This Co-op is the ONLY way this will ever change. This is your chance to make a real difference in your community. Buy the products you consume every day from the Co-op and our community will spend all profits to start, expand and keep the community farm products cost effective for everyone to enjoy. Farm Corporate Stucture

Napa Valley Farm is a Corporation, Cockrell Enterprises Inc. DBA Napa Valley Farm, for legalities we registered as a licensed retail operation in Napa County. Permit Number 650170 We operate under the same FSIS rules as a supermarket, produce stand, butcher shop or deli. The only difference is we are truly owned by our current and future members. No individual will ever hold a majority of corporation’s ownership.

Additionally, there are ample ownership stakes available for you. In time the Name of the Corporation will change, the structure will change to protect all shareholders but one thing will remain the same, this is for the community of Napa County.

NVF Operations

The Buying Group is committed to serving the county. Our initial goal to provide cost-effective, high-quality food source that offers a fresher and superior alternative conventional supermarkets or farmers markets. Initially, our product selection will be limited to ensure freshness and reduce loss. Our offerings will include the fresh products typically found in grocery stores. As we grow, we will have the capability begin direct sourcing, saving our members more money and providing fresher products.

  • Produce.  Our products come from small distributors that buy directly from the farm. We are starting with Organic but are quickly adding Conventional as we find the space store and process them. 88% of the produce consumed in Napa is conventional.
  •  Meat Products – we will start by cutting a couple meat selections weekly, anything cut for the orders stays fresh the rest we freeze. Unfortunately, we will always have frozen product to sell but the goal is to custom cut everything fresh for every order.
    • Special Meats: We can purchase and sell nearly any type of meat product upon special request. However, to supply products such as Mary’s Organic Chicken, Harris Ranch Beef, Superior Lamb, Grass Fed, Wagyu, and others, we meet a minimum case order. We will start a list of customers interested in these products; they will need to weekly “Meat Box” commitment. Once a list of product quantities is built, we will source, custom cut, and package these orders for these customers.
  • Seafood we currently only carry frozen seafood, but we can order any type of fresh fish available at any Seafood Purveyor. We will soon start offering two type of fresh seafood custom cut to customer’s needs. If a customer would like a specific fish to let us know and we can order any fish in a whole fish basis cut to a customer’s wishes.
  • Dairy we have access to all Clover and Straus dairy products. Unfortunately, we struggle to meet the case minimums. Until our membership grows, we will only offer limited products. In time we can offer a wide variety of dairy products all local. We are looking for a cost-effective dairy solution, at this time the fresh dairy market is a highly controlled market, where small purveyors can’t compete. In time our membership will grow enough to ensure we can compete.
  • Exactly how it Ordering and Pick-up works – Initially, our solution may be challenging until our membership numbers increase. You can order at any time, our pick up days are Wednesday through Sunday 3:30PM to 6:00 PM. Our facility is located at 20 Enterprise Court, Suite 9 Around the Back. Napa CA
  • Future Fulfillment and Onsite Shopping Sites – The Co-ops One Year Goal would be to have autonomous sites for purchasing and fulfillment starting from Calistoga, St Helena, North Napa, South Napa and American Canyon. Our sites will consist of cold storage containers (Superstores), set on leased property where a drive-up shopping and fulfillment solution can occur. We would like to have a catered dinner option available at each site as well. Sites might be in church or winery parking lots. We are actively engaging the public for these spots.

What They Say

We are so excited to join The Napa Valley Farm Co-op! With the high prices at the grocery stores this just makes sense for our family as well as supporting our local farmers.

Holli Scheumann

I am so grateful for the wonderful products offered by the Napa Valley Co-op and to see new products added each week. I am tasting fresh, healthy food the way that I remember it as a child with full flavor and quality. I am eating food with the full nutrients and medicinal value that I enjoyed before Greed took over our agriculture and grocery markets. I am delighted to have this wonderful food available at a price I can afford.
