Building on the success of the Plant a Porch Garden Program, we’re excited to launch the Plant an Oak Program. We’re seeking donations of $20 per tree to help reforest Napa County, which has lost countless oaks to wildfires. While other nonprofits are planting acorns, we’re taking a more assured approach. UC Davis research shows that only 1 in 10,000 acorns becomes a two-year-old oak. We aim to beat those odds by planting at optimal times, using two-year-old seedlings, enhancing soil quality, and reducing competition and compaction at planting sites. This program isn’t just about planting; it’s about nurturing and growing. We’ll sustain our efforts by selling oak trees and rabbit manure and urine, which are valuable as fertilizer, insecticide, and more. Our goal is ambitious: plant 10,000 trees in five years, with a survival rate far exceeding the natural odds.

The benefits are immense. Each oak can absorb 48 pounds of CO2 annually, amounting to 6,000 pounds over its lifetime. Imagine the impact of 10,000 trees: 60 million pounds of CO2 absorbed! Beyond carbon sequestration, these trees will combat erosion and enhance water retention, addressing the valley’s aquifer challenges. Our rabbitry, with 1,800 rabbits, will support this initiative by producing significant amounts of urine and manure, essential for the health of our trees and the success of our program.
